THE LOVE OF GOD

Updated: Nov 24

God's children haven't really understood the love of God. We often times try to measure the love of God with our human perspective. The truth is , we can never really compare the love of God with any other love in this world. Every love in this world is conditional and is subject to limits. The love of God is unconditional and it has no limits.

And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Ephesians 3:19 KJV

The Love of God is beyond human comprehension. How can we comprehend the love that is beyond human comprehension ? It is with the help of The Holy Spirit.

May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

Ephesians 3:18 KJV

Estimating the static water level of a borewell might be easy - they may say it is 300 or 400 ft. The depth of God's level is certainly impossible to measure or estimate. The deeper you go , the more deeper it gets. Our minds cannot fully understand this great love except with the help of the Holy Spirit.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16 KJV

The very fact that God loved the world was revealed through Jesus Christ. Jesus lived in this earth as the manifest expression of the love of God. The Pharisees, saducees and the doctors of the law knew everything written in the law but couldn't understand the parables expounded by Jesus. Jesus told parables of the lost coin , the lost sheep, the prodigal son to show the love of The Father. There is no human limitation in the mind to understand the law. You do good to get good. You do bad to get bad. It is that simple. The teachers of the law saw Jesus as a protestor who was going against the law and finally went to the extent of killing Him.

We need to be open to the Holy Spirit to understand God's love. It is continuously progressive. No human or worldly love will ever be able to teach us about the love of God.

For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 2:11 KJV

We as humans, cannot really understand ourselves. Without the Holy Spirit, we can never understand God. With every experience, pain , hardship and struggle , the world teaches us something. We sometimes define losses , financial struggles, sickness in the way the world trained us to see. But God's love is different. The Holy Spirit helps us renew our minds to understand this love that is beyond human comprehension.

Long back, I read a real story of an unmarried christian man who raised orphans from his youth. He owned a small farm house and there lived an angry name-sake christian in the neighborhood who had a big farm. The orphan children sometimes went to work there during school vacation to get some pocket money. A 10-year old boy went to work for the rich man. As he was bringing the man's horse, the horse's heel hit a rock and it bled. The man became furious and took the lashes to strip the little boy's back. He wanted to break the little boy's back so it would bleed just as his horse bled. The little boy ran for his life and hid behind his adoptive father, clinging on to his legs tightly. The man who raised the little boy could see his tender heart and the man racing to bruise him. He took a gun and fervently warned the angry man to stay away from the boy. As the man ran furiously close to the little boy, without heeding any of the warnings from the boy's adoptive father, the father pushed the trigger without his realisation and the bullet went right into the heart of the angry man who came to strip the little child. This Christian man was put in prison because of murder. He spent all his time in jail condemning himself for killing the man. He couldn't pray or read the Word anymore as he felt unqualified.

As the days went by, suddenly the sweet presence of the Lord filled the place and he heard God say, "Son, I love you."

The man replied, "But I don't deserve it Lord . I killed a man, Lord."

God said, "Yet, I love you."

God was the only one who had every right to accuse him but God affirmed the man with His love. Later , because he lived with good report and received good testimony, the man gained his freedom. He went on to raise more orphans and taught them the gospel of Jesus Christ. He ministered and died at a good old age.

The love of God is far too great to be fathomed and explained by the world, humans or philosophers. We can only learn of God's love from the Word of God. It is beyond human comprehension. Only the Holy Spirit can reveal it to us. Understanding the Love of God give us the right understanding of God. The right understanding of God gives us the right understanding on faith, which we need for our everyday faith walk in Christ.
