And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord . And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord ; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.
I Kings 19:11,12 KJV
The Word of The Lord came to a very discouraged Elijah, who was hiding in a cave. The Lord said, "Stand upon the mount before the Lord."
But before the Lord passed by, there came a great and strong wind that tore the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks, followed by an earthquake and fire. But God wasn't found in any of these spectacular outer signs.
As Elijah was inside the cave, he heard the sound of all these wonders, but he never came out.
Sometimes, believers lock themselves in their prayer closet trying to get serious with God and really hearing from him audibly. They may start to pray in tongues, but soon after hearing notification sounds from other media and devices, end up distracted from getting the daily rhema word from the Lord. A minister once said , "We desire the spectacular and miss the supernatural."
Some exclaim that a service went well if they see the congregation screaming in other tongues and falling down under the anointing. They tend to believe in the move of God, only after seeing those spectacular things happen when God is there.
But in this case , we see that the Lord came in a gentle still small voice. In Hebrew, the words used to describe it are " qo-wl qo-wl". The voice of the Lord was heard here, not as a loud spectacular noise, but as the sound of a gentle whisper. When this still small voice came, Elijah knew it was God. When we hear the voice of God , the strength of a thousand men arises inside of us. When Elijah heard it , he wrapped his face in his mantle, went out and stood in the entrance of the cave.
It is so powerful when we value the still small voice of the Lord. We should understand that in our quest for looking for the spectacular signs of God, we should never underestimate the Glory of the still small prompting of the Holy spirit in us, because when the Lord is in intimate neareness, His whisper is all that we need! There is great power, Glory and significance in His voice. This is why it is of utmost importance that we learn to be led by the inward witness of the Holy Spirit in our inner man. It will cause revival to break forth! It not only transforms you, but makes you a transformer of nations!
