LABOURING IN PRAYER

Updated: Nov 24

12.  Epaphras, who is one of you, a bondservant of Christ, greets you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

Colossians 4: 12

The word “labouring” in the above verse does not mean fighting with God. This is something that happens in the spirit. It is a calling to pray so fervently for someone’s country or city or people.

I once experienced a heaviness in my heart as if a ton of weight was placed on me. The Holy Spirit helped me pray like groaning and moaning. It was not a clear language. It was a travailing prayer. After some time, there was an ease and joy in my spirit. I knew the prayer had been answered.

I read the man of God John G Lake’s biography. He was doing his ministry in Africa. There was a certain plague that started killing thousands of people in the city. They tried all medical treatments but could not cure the disease. They could not figure out what disease it was. John G Lake served the community by cleaning wounds and treating people who were suffering. Every day as he was going to the city, he saw a black man under a bush praying at all times. He spent time praying with this man whenever he was led. One day, he was lifted in the spirit to see bugs over the city causing the plague. He started using the name of Jesus to chase the bugs in the realm of the spirit. He saw the black man doing the same with him. The very next day, the plague was completely gone from the city. No one died anymore, the medications started working and people were fully healed.

The black man who kept praying all day was not fighting with God. Jesus gave mankind everything that we require for life and godliness. It is up to us to take it. This prayer relentlessly uses words to bring about a change in the situation. It is an agonizing intercessory travailing prayer. This is a special call and anointing God puts on people to pray at all times. You cannot do it physically but spiritually.
